After enduring one of the most horrendous stints of their career, Mercedes had a glimmer of hope heading into the 2023 Formula 1 season, hoping to reset the clock and seek a bit of authority over high-flying Red Bull. However, to their misfortune, the so-called legends of the hybrid era haven’t really been able to replicate their success story from 2020, and Lewis Hamilton is running out of patience.
The seven-time world champion recently signed a new contract with Silver Arrows and optimistically acknowledged wanting to help Mercedes reclaim the throne from their rivals. However, there is something holding both Hamilton and his eight-time constructors’ champions back from achieving the heightened goal in the rather cut-throat sport.
Is it really the car or is it the driver? Well, according to Hamilton, it is the engineers who are seemingly reluctant to follow his advice. The Briton openly admitted that he had been working closely with the engineers and had one too many crucial suggestions for them. Unfortunately for Hamilton, none of the engineers seem too interested in accepting his remarks and are instead working towards their proposed direction of development.
Nonetheless, Hamilton doesn’t seem too concerned about the situation at Mercedes and is only focused on maximizing the opportunities on the track. Read more to know what Hamilton really said about his recent ‘arguments’ with the engineers.
Mercedes F1 engineers don’t consider the advice of Lewis Hamilton
During the Japanese Grand Prix weekend, Hamilton publicly admitted that he was aware of the issues that are currently holding Mercedes back from challenging the likes of Ferrari, McLaren, and of course, the mighty Red Bull. However, despite arguing with the engineers to prove a point, nothing has worked in favor of the Knighted British legend so far.
#F1: Lewis Hamilton: “I know what the problem is [with the car]; it’s just getting the guys to make the changes. I try to argue my point but it is not my job to design the car.”
“I am hopeful they do the job but it is going to take real changes real quick.”

“I know what the problem is [with the car]; it’s just getting the guys to make the changes. I try to argue my point but it is not my job to design the car. I am hopeful they do the job but it is going to take real changes real quick,” Hamilton said according to a fan page on X.
Overall, the ambition is pretty much the same across the Brackley outfit, which is to dethrone Red Bull to become the best team on the grid. And of course, this is certainly plausible, especially with two of the most talented drivers behind the wheel. Therefore, can Hamilton and his crew come together to spur a change in Mercedes’ fortunes in the coming weeks?
