Lewis Hamilton and Apple TV are producing a Formula 1 movie starring Brad Pitt. The movie has led fans to speculate about the title. It is a relief to say that the movie now has a title.
It has been reported that the title of the movie will be ‘Apex’. The racing community uses the term Apex to identify the point where the car goes closest to the inside point of a corner to generate maximum pace.
Apart from this news, we have also learned that Brad Pitt will be driving a Formula 2 car and not a Formula 1 car as previously reported. Formula 2 cars are a bit slower than Formula 1, but still difficult to drive. Mercedes has chosen to design the car Brad Pitt will drive. He has driven more than 600 miles at the Paul Ricard Circuit in France.
The car has been designed by Mercedes and is already testing (you may have seen a video online.) As are their actors, in sim and real life. Lewis Hamilton is in daily communication and is advising on storyline and script to ensure it’s the most accurate racing film ever made.

The video was taken by a fan and is speculated to be the car designed by Mercedes for the movie. The car sounds like a Formula 2 car and not a Formula 1 car, but designed to have some similar appearances to the Formula 1 car.
The film crew will edit the Formula 2 car to make it look like a Formula 1 car during post-production. The scenes in the movie will be a mixture of Brad Pitt driving the car and footage from the actual 2023 season of Formula 1.
As speculated, the story of ‘Damson Idris’ will loosely be based on Lewis Hamilton’s story. The movie should feature the struggles Hamilton faced as he started his career in racing. Lewis Hamilton is the only black driver on the grid. He has faced a lot of racial abuse during his junior years in racing.

It is currently unclear if Brad Pitt will be involved in the high-speed sequences of the movie. Usually, a stunt driver will be involved in such scenes. But given that the director wants to make the movie as realistic as possible, we could see Brad Pitt in the cockpit during high-speed sequences.
The film will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, who also directed Top Gun: Maverick. He is reportedly using the technology which was used during the filming of Top Gun for Apex as well.
Will Lewis Hamilton star in the Formula 1 movie?
Lewis Hamilton’s production company, Dawn Apollo Films will price the movie along with Apple TV. However, Hamilton will not be starring in the movie. He will be acting as a consultant giving inputs and suggestions on the storyline of the movie.
The movie is scheduled to start shooting sometime in June. The On-track sequences will be shot during the race weekends from the British Grand Prix onwards. However, it has been clearly stated that when the Apex team is on track, none of the other Formula 1 cars will be on the track. This measure has been taken due to safety measures.
Based on the information given, we can expect a late 2024 or early 2025 release date for the movie. This is assuming that the shooting and post-production will take approximately the same time as Top Gun: Maverick.
