Lewis Hamilton has struggled with Mercedes for the entire season. The team that once won 8 Constructors Championships in a row now is trying to grab onto the position behind Red Bull. This season, Mercedes saw a major drop in their performance.
Although the team was able to get themselves some podiums this season and have stuck on a P2 right behind the Red Bull team. However, it seems that they may need some more time to get to them.
However, Lewis Hamilton believes that Mercedes becoming a competitive team again is right around the corner. He said during his press conference, “This is an improvement. This is one of the first upgrades that I’ve actually felt over the last two years. So that’s a positive, and we just need two or three times of this step to put us in super competitive mode, which I believe the guys can do.” This was after he was asked about the new floor that Mercedes was planning to adopt.

Lewis Hamilton has felt much better with his car with the new floor that has been introduced. However, the team has much more to work on until it can successfully challenge Red Bull for its throne.
On the other hand, Hamilton has been the only one to actually get the team some points this season and has singlehandedly carried the team to the second position. Wanting Perez’s second place, he will need all the help he can get from his team.
Lewis Hamilton says F1 should remain an extreme sport
Lewis Hamilton recently talked about the issues that came after the Qatar Grand Prix. The Qatar Grand Prix saw drivers throwing up and fainting after the race due to the intense heat.
However, Lewis Hamilton who left the race in the very beginning talked about not wanting anything to change after many raised questions on the extremity of the situation. The seven-time champion who clearly has spent more time in the sport said,
“This is an extreme sport and we are paid very highly for what we do. I don’t personally want them to shorten the races and make it easier for us. I want it to be extreme, I want to feel the difference, I want to feel pain in my body. We’ve got to be careful how we’re moving with the changes. It’s like ‘Let’s not get too soft’. We’re supposed to be elite athletes. To be elite you need to be pushing to the limit.”

Nonetheless, many feel that the situation was too tough for anyone to handle. But with the extreme conditions in which these athletes fight and battle each other for a championship, they wish it stays that way.
The Austin race this weekend has also confirmed that the heat will put the drivers into some intense situations. And as much as this interests the drivers, many worry about seeing the drivers not even being able to stand on their feet after.
