Mick Schumacher’s return to racing has been long awaited since his exit after the 2022 season. Now the wait is finally over. Although he was not able to find a seat in Formula 1, Mick Schumacher will be taking part in the WEC Championship which hosts the Le Mans race.
Mick Schumacher made his Formula 1 debut in 2021 with Haas. At the time, he seemed to be doing well for a rookie. He was consistently outperforming his teammate Nikita Mazepin. However, in 2022, he faced a bit more trouble in competing with his new and more experienced teammate, Kevin Magnussen. Due to a lack of performance, he lost his seat in Haas and was replaced by fellow German, Nico Hulkenberg.
After losing his seat in F1, he decided to take a reserve driver role with 8-time WCC winner, Mercedes. With this opportunity, he got to work alongside Lewis Hamilton who happens to be the most experienced driver in F1. Mick contributed a lot during the 2023 season. The drivers and Toto have openly credited Mick Schumacher for putting in extra time in the simulator to help deliver results.
Delighted to confirm that @SchumacherMick will retain his reserve driver role with the team for 2024 🤝

The young German was hoping to get a seat in F1 for the 2024 season. However, the seats filled up quickly. As it stands, there is only 1 more seat that is yet to be confirmed. Williams are yet to confirm their 2nd driver for the 2024 season. However, after recent performances, it looks as though Logan Sargeant will retain his seat with Williams.
Mick Schumacher will now be following in the footsteps of Nyck de Vries as he will take part in the WEC Championship in 2024. He will still retain his reserve driver role with Mercedes for the 2024 season. This could help him get more experience for a return to F1 in 2024.
Mick Schumacher joins forces with Alpine for Le Mans
For the 2024 WEC season, Mick Schumacher will be driving Alpine’s hypercar. So we will see Mick behind the wheel of the blue Alpine during the Le Mans race in 2024 as well. It will be exciting to see how Mick will perform in the hypercar division this year.
Nyck de Vries will also be driving in WEC for the 2024 season. He will be racing for Toyota’s #7 car. Toyota won the WEC Championship last season. So there is a strong possibility that we will see Nyck lift the Le Mans Cup this year similar to Antonio Giovinazzi this year.
Mick Schumacher will race for Alpine at Le Mans in 2024! 🥳
Schumacher 🗣️: “Endurance racing is a new challenge for me, and I’m sure we will share great moments together next year with Alpine.”

Mick Schumacher will be hoping that his performance with Alpine puts him on the shortlist for a few Formula 1 teams. Alpine will be having 2 vacancies after the 2024 season. So if Mick proves to be promising in Le Mans and as the Mercedes reserve driver, we could see him back on the grid in 2025.
It has been rumored that Mick Schumacher will join Audi Motorsport in 2026. However, for this to happen, he will need to get some experience in the sport. If he is not able to get a seat in 2024, he will need to get it in 2025 if he still wishes for a future in F1. After the 2025 season, it is unlikely that Mick will get a seat in F1 as there are much younger and arguably more promising drivers in Formula 2.
