SUMMARY
- Daniil Kvyat was announced to replace Sebastian Vettel in Red Bull from the 2015 season.
- After a year with the team, Kvyat was replaced by an 18-year old Max Verstappen.
Daniil Kvyat drove for Toro Rosso and then Red Bull through the 2010s. His career ended after the 2020 season when Yuki Tsunoda was chosen by Red Bull to replace him. Since then, he has not been able to get back on the F1 grid. It is also unlikely that he will drive in F1 again.
There have been a lot of ups and downs for Daniil Kvyat during his career in F1. After making his F1 debut, he climbed up the ranks to join Red Bull Racing. However, he was brought back down from that position as well. While ruining his career, Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko also ruined a popular HBO show for the Russian driver.
Helmut Marko ruins Daniil Kvyat’s career as he was watching Game of Thrones
When Daniil Kvyat drove for Toro Rosso in 2014, he was considered to be one of the top talents in F1. However, he was not chosen to replace Mark Webber as Daniel Ricciardo beat him to it. Just when his career at Red Bull started to look bleak, Sebastian Vettel shocked the world when he announced that he would be driving for Ferrari in the 2015 season.
Red Bull had to choose between Daniil Kvyat and Jean-Eric Vergne to replace Vettel. Since Kvyat was younger and more promising, he was chosen to drive for Red Bull for the 2015 season. Since joining Red Bull, he was not able to match Daniel Ricciardo’s pace in the other Red Bull. Although he was able to match Ricciardo in points in 2015, he was known to be very reckless during race starts. Sebastian Vettel even gave Kvyat his nickname, The Tornado for his reckless starts.

During the 2016 Russian Grand Prix, Kvyat ran into the back of Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari. This sent the German spinning and out of the race. After this incident, Daniil Kvyat no longer drove for Red Bull. He was replaced by Max Verstappen from the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix.
When Daiil Kvyat received the news from Helmut Marko, the Russian was watching an episode of Game of Thrones. Considering the year, it could have been season 6 of the series. There is no doubt that the show was ruined for Kvyat by Helmut Marko.
The story behind Max Verstappen’s bitter relationship with Daniil Kvyat
Back in 2016, Max Verstappen was chosen to replace Daniil Kvyat in Red Bull. At the time, Max had just completed his season debut and was just 18 years old. Having been replaced by a younger driver, it would have been hard for Kvyat not to resent the Dutch driver.

In 2019, Kvyat’s relationship with his long-term girlfriend, Kelly Piquet ended. The couple had a daughter, Penelope who was born in 2019. Since then, Kelly started a relationship with Max Verstappen, the man who replaced Kvyat in Red Bull. Verstappen also shares a close relationship with Kvyat’s daughter, Penelope.
Given that Max has replaced Kvyat as a driver for Red Bull and as Kelly Piquet’s boyfriend, it could be hard for Kvyat not to have something against Max Verstappen. However, neither driver has said anything to indicate that they don’t like each other.
