The Australian driver was on his lap during which Oscar Piastri had hit the wall. Ricciardo, unaware of what happened in front of him, kept getting in his free practice until he saw Piastri far up ahead. With not a single thought, he spun his car into the car right before he hit the Aussie driver. The Australian talked about the collision after it was confirmed that he broke his wrist.

Talking to F1, he said, “I had already gotten into the corner and then saw Piastri, so it was either hit him or the wall.”
“When I hit the wall, I didn’t have enough time to take my hands off the steering wheel, so the wheel came and hit my hand.”

Daniel Ricciardo soon received gratitude from Oscar Piastri and was showered with praises for his quick thinking. However, the collision cost him not just one race but also surgery. Nonetheless, according to the team bosses, it might take the driver to return for quite a while.

According to the Red Bull team bosses, recent updates on Ricciardo suggest that he won’t be back for a while. The driver’s surgery has been said to take a while to deal. This means it will leave him out of the race for quite a while. Liam Lawson, however, will get a chance to drive in a Formula 1 car and get time to impress some teams. When talking about the updates, Helmut Marko confirmed his absence.
The morning of the Dutch GP, Ricciardo took to Instagram to give everyone a quick update on his surgery. All the fellow drivers like Pierre Gasly, Carlos Sainz, and George Russell commented wishing him a speedy recovery. Nevertheless, there may not be good news coming his way.

Helmut Marko confirmed his absence at Monza and Singapore. Helmut Marko told Sky Sports, “We’ll get an approximate opinion from the doctor tonight, but things are looking rather bad for the next two races.”
Even Christian Horner gave a few details on the surgery. He said, “It went well, it was successful. The bone was broken in multiple places but it was a fairly straightforward procedure. So now it’s all about recovery.”
Furthermore, he said that the recovery for a normal person would take a month. Keeping his hopes high, he added, that Ricciardo being a Formula 1 driver will help make recovery quicker. Ricciardo was ridden of sitting on the bench for half of the season. When finally the driver made a comeback, he was sent back to a hospital bed to rest. Nonetheless, Ricciardo will be absent from the scene and will take time to recover. In the meantime, Lawson will be making progress for AlphaTauri.
