Ever since the skiing accident, we have not gotten many updates on Michael Schumacher. However, Corinna Schumacher’s lawyer recently revealed why the decision was made. While we did get an idea of it at the end of the Netflix documentary, her lawyer has given a bit more elaborate explanation.
“It has always been about protecting private matters,” Damm explained. “Of course, we discussed a lot about how this is possible. We considered whether a final report about Michael’s health could be the right way to do this. “
But that wouldn’t have been the end of it and there would have had to be constantly updated reports, because media could pick on such a report again and again and ask: ‘And what does it look like now’, one, two, or three months or years after the message.”
“I believe that the vast majority of fans can deal with [Schumacher’s condition well] and also respect the fact that the accident has set in motion a process in which privacy is necessary and will now continue to be observed.”
The demand for updates on the health of Michael Schumacher has been plentiful since his 2013 skiing accident, and now his long-time press lawyer Felix Damm explains why little information has been made public.

Michael Schumacher got into a skiing accident in 2013. This was just 1 year after he retired from F1. He was driving for the Mercedes F1 team from 2010 to 2012. His 3 year stint helped Mercedes acquire a lot of data which helped them build their Championship car for 2014. The team continued to win for the next 8 years.
During the early 2000s, Michael Schumacher and Ferrari became one of the most dominant duos of all time. They won 5 consecutive Championships from 2000. It would have been 6 if Michael Schumacher did not injure himself in 1999. There was no doubt that Michael would have won the WDC that year if he had taken part in all the races that season. However, Ferrari did manage to win the WCC.
What did Michael Schumacher’s wife say about him in the Netflix Documentary?
In 2021, Netflix released a documentary that featured Michael Schumacher’s early years in F1. Towards the end of the documentary, Corinna Schumacher stated why she chose to keep her husband’s condition private.
“Michael is here. Different, but he’s here, and that gives us strength, I find,” she said.
“We’re together. We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he’s comfortable. And to simply make him feel our family, our bond. And no matter what, I will do everything I can. We all will. We’re trying to carry on as a family, the way Michael liked it and still does. And we are getting on with our lives.”
“‘Private is private’, as he always said. It’s very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. “Michael always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael.”

Michael Schumacher married Corinna Schumacher in 1995. Since then, he has made sure to keep his family safe from the media. Privacy was very important to Michael. While he did have a professional life that he valued, he also had a very happy personal life which is arguably more important for him.
Although Michael is conscious at the moment, he is not himself. His accident has left him with major injuries to his head. It is unlikely that we will ever hear that Michael Schumacher is back to his normal self. However, he is still living with his family and continues to spend time with them. Instead of Michael protecting his family, his family is now protecting him. They will continue to do so for a long time.
