Chelsea to play Champions League games without fans
Chelsea will play any remaining home Champions League fixtures behind closed doors. Owner Roman Abramovic was sanctioned by the UK government last week.
Chelsea season-ticket holders are allowed to attend domestic matches under the terms of the government license, European tickets are not included in that deal. Chelsea are not allowed to sell tickets in order to generate revenue.
After Chelsea’s 4-1 aggregate win, coach Thomas Tuchel was asked to comment on the news that the remaining Chelsea games will be played behind closed doors. After being told this following Chelsea’s win in Lille, Tuchel replied:
“Thanks for ruining my evening. I was in such a good mood. Can we speak about it when it is confirmed?”
“It is confirmed” Cotterill hit back, to which Tuchel said: “So let’s wait for the confirmation of the confirmation. Let’s see, Today I am happy that we are in the last eight.”
Fans are a massive help for football teams. They are important for boosting the morale of the players and Chelsea will surely miss the roar at Stamford Bridge.
