Jon Jones has been teasing a move to heavyweight for years now. 2021 may finally be the year it happens as Jones seems to be bulking up to move out of 205. Though everyone expected Jon to face Stipe in his heavyweight debut, a new Champion in Francis Ngannou changed everything. Jon’s move to heavyweight is not simply a fight anymore but a super fight. Like anything to do with Jon Jones, this was also shrouded in controversy. Francis Ngannou speaks out for his potential opponent and former Light heavyweight champion Jon Jones’ pay.
For a change, it was the UFC that was cause for commotion as the organization failed to meet Jones’ financial demands for the bout. It is no secret that for the caliber of Jones, he is vastly underpaid. For comparison sake, his brothers Chandler and Arthur who were NFL stars but nowhere near as dominant as Jon is in his field are both richer than him. After a week of making his problems public on Twitter, we now know what his potential opponent feels about the whole deal.

Francis Ngannou thinks Jon Jones is not as tough as Stipe Miocic
On a recent episode of Hotboxin, newly crowned UFC champion Francis Ngannou talked about his perspective on the situation with Jones. Francis made clear that the possible fights with Derrick Lewis and Cyril Gane can wait and his eyes are set on the former #1 pound-for-pound fighter.
Francis agrees that Jon should be paid handsomely for their bout as it is a huge risk that he takes with regard to his legacy. “Jon Jones definitely has more tools in his pocket than Stipe”, said the heavyweight champion when asked how he thought the fight would go. Francis also believes that Jones is not as tough as Stipe and has shown that he can be hit in the past.
Though standing up for fighter pay may not always end up in your best interests, it’s admirable that Francis chose to do it regardless. Meanwhile, Jones gave an interview to Fight Hype in-between a training session at Jackson Wink MMA, where he hinted that the deal was close to being finalized
