Middleweight legend Gennadiy Golovkin returns to action against Ryota Murata in his attempt to secure the WBA (Super) middleweight title as both the boxers share the boxing ring this weekend inside Saitama Super Arena on April 9. Returning to the ring for the first time in two years, the excitement and anticipation behind the return of GGG are certainly at their peak.
Fighting for the first time since the pandemic, Golovkin will travel all the way to Japan to take on the dangerous Ryota Murata. One interesting thing to note ahead of the bout is the fact that both the boxers have been inactive for more than two years. GGG last fought in December of 2020. On the other hand, Murata’s last outing inside the boxing ring came in December of 2019.
Needless to say, Golovkin is the favorite going into the bout and all eyes will be on Murata to see whether or not he can pull off an upset. At 39 years of age, GGG is not the boxer he used to be. However, his forward pressure and power punches continue to demolish his opponents, and for as long as one can remember, no other name in the middleweight division has even come close to touching Golovkin’s success.
