Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal

Jorge Masvidal suffered the first KO loss of his MMA career at UFC 261. Jorge Masvidal fought Kamaru Usman in a rematch for the welterweight title.

It was a huge fight for Jorge Masvidal as the arena was filled with over 15000 fans who came there to support him. However, the outcome did not go in his favor as Usman produced one of the best knockouts in UFC title fights in round 2 of the fight.

Following the loss to Kamaru Usman, Jorge Masvidal talked to Joe Rogan in the octagon. Jorge Masvidal opened up about the first loss of his career and explained what went wrong for him. Masvidal stated:

“First time in my career and it’s in front of my family, my people, my friends. so it hurts. I have never been knocked out in 50 pro fights. Usman showed me something that he did not show in the first fight. I did not feel his power. And that’s what happens when you get overconfident. I was ready to wrestle 25 mins. All the props to him in the world. He caught me by surprise. And he got my number man. There is nothing that I can say but he won this fair and square and god blessed.”

Masvidal is in a tough position after losing two consecutive fights to Kamaru Usman. It’s very unlikely that he will fight for the welterweight title again unless Usman loses the welterweight title. At this point, there are some fun matchups for Masvidal in the welterweight division. The rematch with Stephen Thompson and the grudge match with Leon Edwards will definitely appeal to the fans. Besides that, a super fight with Nick Diaz might be in the works as Dana White confirmed Diaz is looking for a fight.
