Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are set to take home a whopping guaranteed purse of $75 million for their highly anticipated and much-awaited showdown for the undisputed heavyweight championship in Saudi Arabia on August 14. Needless to say, fans can now start counting the days for the highly-anticipated showdown between the British heavyweight.
The bout has been marketed as the biggest sporting event in British boxing’s modern history. Fury currently reigns as the undisputed WBC and the Ring heavyweight champion, while Joshua has stacked the WBO, WBA, IBF, IBO heavyweight championship. After everything is said and done, only one boxer will triumph and unify the heavyweight titles to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
While Fury remains undefeated inside the ring with a sole draw to his name coming against Deontay Wilder during their first encounter, Joshua has faced a loss in his career. Fury went on to eventually win against then WBC champion Deontay Wilder, with Joshua also avenging his loss against Andy Ruiz Jr. to once again grab the heavyweight gold.
Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua goes down in Saudia Arabia
It won’t be wrong to say that a lot of fans would have been disappointed considering the bout is not happening in Britain. It’s ironic how the biggest bout in British boxing history is not going to take place in England despite there being several bouts that happened recently in England with a live audience.
Needless to say, the promotion is receiving huge money, and it’s evident with the whooping fight purse for Joshua and Fury that doesn’t involve the PPV revenue share.
The highly anticipated bout has taken years in the making and has gone through various barricades to finally come on paper. Earlier the bout was in doubt after Deontay Wilder accused Fury of not following the clause he signed to have a trilogy bout after the rematch. Additionally, contract disputes also played a huge part with both Fury and Joshua expressing frustration for not booking the bout.
In what promises to be an exciting match-up, the entire boxing world would be watching as the heavyweight greats step inside the ring to unify the heavyweight gold.
