We can finally push aside all the reports and rumors with MMA journalist Ariel Helwani seemingly confirming that Nate Diaz won’t fight at UFC 272. There were reports that Nate Diaz could return to the UFC Octagon in a five-round fight against former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier. Both the fighters had expressed their interest in fighting against each other. However, the match-up couldn’t come to fruition after Diaz revealed that the UFC is not interested in booking this fight.

Nate Diaz has one fight left on his UFC contract, and the Stockton Slugger has called out several fighters to share the cage with him. Moreover, fighters like Belal Muhammad, Khamzat Chimaev, among others have also expressed their interest in fighting the former UFC lightweight championship title challenger. However, the name that makes the most noise is Dustin Poirier.
Nate Diaz vs Dustin Poirier not happening at UFC 272
Dustin Poirier revealed in a recent interview with legendary Boxing coach Teddy Atlas that he was in conversation with the UFC matchmakers for a fight against Nate Diaz. It was the confidence with which Poirier spoke about the possibility of the fight that made many fight fans believe that we could witness Dustin Poirier vs Nate Diaz after all.
I just talked to the ufc I said wassup with the Dp fight I wanna fight asap but they said dustin sucks and they don’t want it sorry Dustin you suck hope to fight asap tho let’s do this ????????
Ps Olivera you suck too— Nathan Diaz (@NateDiaz209) January 5, 2022
However, that wasn’t the case as it was reported that UFC is not interested in the match-up. While Dana White has maintained that the promotion could make that fight, there has been no official confirmation from the UFC.
Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier were linked to fighting each other back in November of 2018. However, the fight fell apart after Poirier pulled out due to an injury. Almost four years later, when we finally thought that we could see both the fighters share the Octagon, it seems like we might have to wait for a little longer.
UFC 272 goes down inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and features the return of Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal. Both Covington and Masvidal are coming off titles losses against Kamaru Usman. Needless to say, they will look to jump back to the winning column with a statement win at UFC 272. The rivalry between Covington and Masvidal is an exciting one for fight fans. After all, friends turned arch-nemesis will finally settle their beef inside the cage on March 5 once and for all.
