SUMMARY
- Teddy Long is a WWE Hall of Famer.
- However, it does not look like Long is eager to return to the company.
Veteran WWE figure Teddy Long has been considered one of the most successful General Manager’s in SmackDown history. His work as the on-screen executive for the blue brand was truly exceptional, and that’s why the pro wrestling audience still misses his presence on Friday’s show.
The 5-foot-7 pro wrestling figure first took charge as the GM in 2004, and his brilliant work ended up giving him a combined run of six years in this position. After this, he served in the same role at ECW and continued his association with the company until he was released in 2014.
It’s been a decade since the WWE legend hasn’t been an employee of the Triple H-led promotion, and fans wonder if he will ever sign again with the company. Teddy gave the answer to this question during his recent appearance on YouTube sensation Chris Van Vliet’s podcast.
During his interview with Chris, the 76-year-old talked about a potential return to the Stamford-based promotion and revealed that it’s not really on the cards. As the YouTuber asked, “You don’t think you’ll ever be back in WWE,” Teddy Long has a non-hesitant response to the question, as he said, “no.”
With these comments, the veteran probably made it clear that he’s not going to make a comeback to the organization. Even though this is not what his admirers would have wished to hear from Long, it must be noted that plans can always change in the pro wrestling industry.
Teddy Long reveals the reason why he won’t return to WWE
The legendary SmackDown General Manager didn’t just mention that he’s probably not going to make a return to WWE, but even revealed the reason behind it. As Chris Van Vliet asked him the reason why he doesn’t feel that he’s ever going to make a comeback to the Triple H-led promotion, Teddy Long had an interesting response to the question.
The 76-year-old said, “Well, with the changes now and you know what I mean I think they’re going in another direction. You know that GM stuff is probably going to be played out you know in a little bit I mean who I don’t know I just think I’m not going to go they may what somebody else may think of something else I don’t know but I just don’t think so.”
Additionally, the WWE legend also stated that it might end up happening only if there are some major changes. But it seems unlikely to happen due to the success the company has been achieving with their product. Due to this, it seems like Teddy’s on-screen run with the company isn’t going to restart again.
How did Teddy Long make it to the WWE?
Teddy Long declining the possibility of a WWE return isn’t what his fans wanted to happen, but now that he has said so, it’s probably going to stay that way. However, his recent comments have started a lot of discussion about his career among the fans, as they’ve been wondering how he initially made it to the organization.
In this regard, it must be noted that the 5-foot-7 started off his career in the pro wrestling promotion as a referee in 1998. He even performed the same duties on the night of Owen Hart’s tragic fall. After doing this role for a few years, he was transformed into a heel manager, until he got the privilege to be the General Manager of SmackDown in 2004.
As he got the opportunity to be the GM, Teddy’s career reached new heights, and he did the most memorable work of his career in this role alone. Amid the kind of performances he gave in the WWE, he was inducted into the 2017 Hall of Fame. Even though he’s currently not signed with the Stamford-based promotion, Long has still made several appearances in recent years, and it remains to be seen when he’ll be seen again in the company.
