As we lead up to this super showdown, Schmo asked the former welterweight title contender Gilbert Burns in an interview for his thoughts about this matchup.
“That’s a tough one. To be honest, everybody thinks Colby gonna get an easy win with the takedowns but I don’t think so. To be honest I completely disagree with that. I know Masvidal knows how risky this fight is, you know if he loses it’s going to be very tough for him, three losses. I think Masvidal is working super hard and I know he’s working very hard, I know a couple of his teammates.”
Thereafter the Brazilian welterweight predicted that Masvidal will finish Covington and also gave a summary about how this fight would go down.
“And I’m going to upset. I’m going with Masvidal with the win. You know a lot of body shots hurt. He can hurt Colby on the body. And then later rounds you know get a finish. I see Masvidal getting a finish to be honest. And then I think Masvidal and Luque would be a freaking crazy fight.”
Can Jorge Masvidal beat Colby Covington at UFC 272?
Fight fans can expect Colby Covington vs Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272 to be a banger because both fighters know each other’s strengths and weaknesses inside the octagon. With that being said, Masvidal will be ready for Covington’s takedown attempts as defending takedowns has been an issue for Gamebred in his recent fights.
If Jorge manages to limit Covington’s control on the ground then he could have a good chance of winning the fight in a standup battle. The Chaos has improved his striking and it was at display against Usman in their rematch at UFC 268. However, Masvidal is far more dangerous and unpredictable and has the ability to finish the fight with a single strike.
Therefore Masvidal does have his chances of beating Covington in their main event fight at UFC 272. Do let us know in the comments section who you think will emerge victorious between Covington and Masvidal.
