Former UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez is a free agent. The Underground King is widely regarded as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time. He is now a free agent and fans are wondering whether the former UFC Champion will once again return to the Octagon.
However, it seems like UFC President Dana White is not too high on signing Eddie Alvarez. During UFC 281 post-fight press conference, White shared his thoughts on Eddie Alvarez.
“Eddie hit me up a couple of days ago. But no, we haven’t had any serious conversation.”
“I think Eddie is at a point in his career, you know, we are always trying to bring in young, up-and-coming guys that hopefully can be World Champion some day. That’s what we really look for.” Dana White said.
At 38 years old, it’s safe to say Eddie Alvarez is at the tail end of his MMA career. It’s safe to say, clinching the title lightweight gold is quite unlikely, and looking at Alvarez’s recent performances, the expectations aren’t too high either.
Eddie Alvarez calls out Michael Chandler for a trilogy fight at UFC 281
Alvarez’s last fight came against Dustin Poirier back in July 2018. After a grueling back-and-forth affair, Alvarez lost the fight via TKO in the second round. Alvarez would then move to ONE Championship, and it’s safe to say that it did not quite turn out to be the run that Alvarez would have hoped.

In the four fights at ONE, Alvarez emerged victorious on just one occasion, dropping two losses, with one fight ending in a No-Contest. Now, a free agent, Alvarez is looking to sign with the UFC once again and recently called out former rival Michael Chandler for a trilogy fight inside the UFC Octagon.

Alvarez and Chandler have put up two of the greatest bouts in the history of mixed martial arts during their time at Bellator. With UFC being a bigger platform, it won’t be wrong to say that Chandler vs Alvarez 3 will grab a lot of eyeballs. However, looking at Dana White’s recent comments, it doesn’t look like it will be the case.
