Joe Joyce is a British boxer who competes in the heavyweight division. He was born to a Scottish-born Irish father Philip Joyce, and a Nigerian mother Marvel Opara. It makes Joe Joyce half-Nigerian from his mother’s side.
The Juggernaut found himself learning the cultures of both Britain and Nigeria, something her mother believes has made him what he is today. Joe Joyce is known for his silent nature and his professionalism both before and after the bout. Joyce doesn’t like to engage in trash-talking and relies on his boxing to the talking inside the ring.
Earlier, taking on one of the brightest prospects in boxing in the form of Daniel Dubois, Joyce kept his composure despite Dubois mocking his mother, and let his action inside the ring do the talking for him. As the fellow British boxer went down on his knees, quitting the fight after suffering vicious damage to his eyes with a lethal jab that kept coming from Joyce, to wrap the fight in the tenth round.
“He’s a perfectionist in whatever he does. I think because he has a visually impaired mum, who can’t see things properly, it’s almost like he is doing the opposite. He is going to do it really well, and properly.”
“He enjoyed being out in nature. I used to always take him every other weekend to the country so that he would be in nature. He was only six years old, and he was swimming lakes, you know freezing cold lakes in the mountain.” Joyce’s mother Marvel Opara reveals this in an interview.
Joe Joyce has slowly found a place in the heart of boxing fans around the world and will stop at nothing to become the undisputed champion of the heavyweight division. The Juggernaut is a former Olympic silver medallist. He has also won the gold medal in the European championship, and bronze in the World Championship in 2015.
Joe Joyce: The “new Anthony Joshua”
Joe Joyce has often been compared to boxing heavyweight Anthony Joshua for his physicality and his ability to move quite quickly for a man his size. Needless to say, it is something that sets Joshua apart from other heavyweight boxers, and it is the same thing that makes Joe Joyce a threat in the heavyweight division.
Joe Joyce and Anthony Joshua are close friends, and often train together ahead of their fights. Joyce and Joshua were last seen together, training for their fights against Daniel Dubois and Kubrat Pulev, with both the boxers winning their respective fights via way of stoppage. Needless to say, the future is bright for the former Olympic silver medallist who has already cemented his position in the professional circuit.
