Alex Pereira took the entire middleweight division of UFC by storm with a stunning knockout win in his UFC debut last year. He utilised that momentum and dominated Bruno Silva to win his second fight via unanimous decision.
The Brazilian middleweight will now make his return inside the octagon to take on Sean Strickland on the main card of UFC 276. With just two fights, Alex Pereira has made a big jump and if he defeats Strickland this weekend then he will get a direct title shot.
He is currently training with former light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira and in the recent episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast, the UFC commentator discusses the impact the Brazilian middleweight created in rejuvenating Teixeira to the top of the division.
“He trains with Glover and Glover’s resurgence I think is directly connected, it’s the same timeline as Pereira training with him. It’s in the same timeline I mean it’s not that Glover wasn’t always elite, Glover was one of the best fighters in the world. But I think having a f*****g straight-up assassin that dude is terrifying.”

Training with Pereira has helped in the growth of Glover and the same could be said about the light heavyweight champion. Because Teixeira is a wonderful grappler and he is helping the Brazilian to improve his ground game and some of the growth was on display during Alex’s UFC debut fight.
It would be interesting to see whether training with the former champion has led to any improvement as he takes on Strickland who has good takedown skills.
Joe Rogan praises the striking power of Alex Pereira and believes that he is a one of a kind fighter
Later in the podcast, Joe Rogan spoke about the threat that Alex Pereira possesses while striking. The UFC commentator was in awe of his power and lauded him for having a freakish power which helps him put people to sleep with one big blow.
“There’s certain people that just have f*****g crazy power. This guy has this f*****g freakish disproportionate power where it doesn’t even make any sense. What are you made out of like you’re built different?”
It is needless to say that this is one of the most exciting matchups on the entire card because both middleweight’s like to fight for the audience and deliver a show. So we can expect a brutal bloodbath from this three round bout.
