UFC women bantamweight and featherweight champion, Amanda Nunes is out of his fight after she tests positive for COVID-19. UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell broke this news to ESPN first.
Amanda Nunes was scheduled to defend her bantamweight title against Julianna Pena in the co-main event of UFC 265 that takes place in Houston.
For now, UFC is looking to reschedule the title fight when Amanda Nunes is healthy and ready to get back into the octagon. Amanda Nunes was coming off a dominant win over Megan Anderson and her fight with Julianna Pena was shaping up to be an exciting back and forth.
Going into the fight, Julianna Pena had made some bold statements about Amanda Nunes. However, the fans will have to wait a little longer to watch these two bantamweight elites face each other inside the octagon.
How does Amanda Nunes Fight getting Cancelled Affect UFC 265?
Despite the loss of the co-main event, UFC 265 still has some exciting fights in the main card and the prelims. The main event between Derrick Lewis and Ciryl Gane will crown the new interim heavyweight champion.
Both Derrick Lewis and Ciryl Gane have been on a dominant winning streak in the UFC heavyweight division. While Lewis has been impressively finishing top heavyweight contenders Ciryl Gane has proved himself as one of the best strikers in heavyweight history with wins over Alexander Volkov and Jarzinhio Rozenstruik.
On the other hand, former UFC featherweight king, Jose Aldo will take on one of the top contenders in the bantamweight division is Pedro Munhoz. Besides that, Vicente Luque is coming back to take on Michael Chiesa in a crucial welterweight clash.
If Vicente Luque beats Chiesa, who has looked dominant in the welterweight division, then he will be aiming for a title shot against Kamaru Usman or a fight against top 3 contenders.
Even the prelims are stacked with some fun matchups including Tecia Torres vs Angela Hill, Rafael Fiziev vs Bobby Green, and Ed Herman vs Alonzo Menifield. It’s very likely that Rafael Fiziev vs Bobby Green will be moved to the main card now considering the performance of Fiziev in his last fight.
