Kai Kara-France wants to fight for the Flyweight title next! He has just defeated the previously unbeaten no. 2 ranked UFC flyweight Askar Askarov. He won the fight via unanimous decision as all three judges scored the fight 29-28 in favour of him.
However, the fight wasn’t an easy one for the City Kickboxing (CKB) fighter. Kai started off in a conservative manner as he constantly backpedalled during the first round. Taking advantage of that Askarov took him down.
But the Kiwi fighter has very sound grappling skills. That was on full display as he quickly stood back up. Although the Russian did manage to finish the round on Kai’s back as he constantly looked for a Rear Naked Choke from the back.
France did not repeat the same mistake of a slow start in the second round. Although he was taken down briefly, Kai managed to escape very smoothly. He put pressure on Askarov with brisk punches and managed to tag him multiple times.
The third round was more like the second than the first. Askarov attempted more takedowns but was unable to work around France’s impeccable takedown defence. Kai’s constant blitz gave Askar a lot of issues. Askarov seemed as if he was unsure of himself once the takedowns started to fail.
Kai Kara France calls for the title shot after beating no.2 ranked Askar Askarov
Ahead of today’s bout, Askar Askarov was ranked no. 2 in the 125lbs division. Hence the victory over him will certainly make him a contender to fight for the belt next. Demanding a title shot next, Kai Kara-France said,
“Hey, I know Brandon Moreno and Figueiredo are fighting very soon. I want the next title shot.”
Figgy-Moreno 4 is next. Hopefully July.

KKF should get winner.
It is being reported that UFC is looking to book the fourth fight between Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo in July. Both have won 1 fight each with the first one being a draw. Hence, some may call it the unofficial ‘trilogy’ fight. After Kai’s impressive victory tonight, it will not be surprising if he fights the winner in July.
