There’s no denying that Khamzat Chimaev has made a huge impact in the UFC in such a short period of time. The Swedish fighter, hailing from Chechnya has proved his mettle inside the Octagon with four straight wins to his name. He has been absolutely dominant inside the cage, and it won’t be wrong to say that we could see him compete for the UFC’s welterweight strap very soon. Needless to say, Kamaru Usman has his eyes on Khamzat Chimaev’s rise and popularity in the UFC, and the UFC’s welterweight champion recently shared his thoughts on possibly meeting the undefeated fighter inside the Octagon at some point.

Ahead of UFC 268, arguably the most important fighter of Usman’s career, the Nigerian Nightmare shared his thoughts on the surging Khamzat Chimaev. The undisputed king of the welterweight division opined that he is not focused on Kamaru Usman right now, and revealed that if it makes sense and Chimaev is able to break into the top guys, there’s a reason to believe that he will have to talk about him at some point.
However, as things stand right now, Kamaru Usman professed that he is not particularly sure about how long he wants to compete in the UFC, and mentioned the time away from family as the main reason why he is not thinking that far about his MMA career.
Can Kamaru Usman beat Khamzat Chimaev?
It’s safe to say that Kamaru Usman is the A-side should he fight Khamzat Chimaev. While the Borg has been absolutely dominant in his UFC career so far, it’s not wrong to say that he has not faced the top contenders in the division and would require more experience and time inside the Octagon to take on someone of the caliber of Kamaru Usman.
Additionally, Usman’s wrestling prowess should negate Khamzat’s grappling pedigree to a huge extent, and considering how much Kamaru Usman has improved his striking under the legendary Trevor Wittman, it’s safe to say that Kamaru Usman should emerge victoriously. However, it will be easier said than done.
