Kamaru Usman has nothing left to prove as far as his rivalry with Jorge Masvidal goes. The Nigerian Nightmare became the first fighter to earn a KO win over Jorge Masvidal after he knocked out Gamebred with a vicious right hand in the second round to successfully defend his welterweight title for the fourth time in what was an exciting performance from arguably the greatest welterweight of all time.
Kamaru Usman has cruised through the welterweight division, and it looks like he only has rematches to think about with Covington hungry for another shot at the title. Additionally, Leon Edwards will also look to challenge Usman once again, this time for the welterweight strap should he triumph over Nate Diaz at UFC 263.
Kamaru Usman hasn’t denied any possibility of a potential trilogy bout with Jorge Masvidal and feels if Gamebred can bounce back and earn victories as he did before landing the title opportunity, there’s every reason to believe that a trilogy bout will be on the cards, and Usman is ready for it should the opportunity arise.
“If he went out and got some wins over top contenders, and really showed the world that he is still able to compete, then, of course, I’ll give him another shot. You know, maybe he had a bad day the last fight. Maybe he had a worse day the fight before that. So I will give him an opportunity to show everyone that third time is the charm.”
Inc conversation with ESPN, Kamaru Usman also rained down on Conor McGregor and called him a regular fighter if not for the attention and recognition he has gotten for his initial success in the UFC.
What’s next for Kamaru Usman?
There are a lot of options ahead for Kamaru Usman who has looked absolutely incredible in 2021, with two back-to-back stoppage wins to his name. Often criticized for his boring fighting style, Usman has proved from his last few performances that he can hang with any fighter and has the ability to do well in all the departments.
Kamaru Usman has evolved into an all-round fighter and is a dangerous fight for any fighter in the division. A potential rematch with Colby Covington and Leon Edwards is one the cards, however, should Diaz triumph over Usman, the likelihood of a super-fight between Usman vs Nate tops the chart.
