Former Raptors and Heat forward Chris Bosh in his newsletter reflected on Kobe Bryant‘s insane work ethic. Chris Bosh has started his newsletter called ‘The Last Chip’ where writes about unheard stories from his days in the NBA. Bosh was writing about how he was inspired by his peers like LeBron James, Dwayne Wade to always work on his craft. Subsequently, he mentioned a story about Kobe Bryant during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Bosh also mentioned an incident about a moring where he thought he was early to the breakfast. But to his surprise, Kobe was already there with ice bags on his knees as he had just worked out. This happened just weeks later Kobe’s defeat in the NBA finals against the Boston Celtics.
Bosh wrote, “That morning, I headed down to breakfast early, which made me feel good about myself—because I figured most of my teammates were still sleeping. And I was right. Basically no one else was down there… except for Kobe. Not only was he the first to breakfast, but he also had ice bags on his knees, which meant he’d already worked out.”
Mind you, this was less than two weeks after the Lakers lost in the Finals to the Celtics. You couldn’t have blamed him for resting up and focusing on being healthy for the next season. But instead, the dude was pushing himself harder than any human being I had ever met—waking up at 4:00 a.m. to hit the gym. That meant all of us were gonna push ourselves, too. ”
Things like these have created the legend of Kobe Bryant. Throughout his career, Kobe was known for intense workouts which helped him develop the ‘Mamba Mentality’. Several players around the league have tried to incorporate this mindset and have succeeded. Kobe’s intensity was infectious as players like LeBron James and Dwayne Wade used it to elevate their own games according to Chris Bosh.
We lost Kobe Bryant in January but still his legacy his taken forward by following his ‘Mamba Mentality’ and working immensely hard to become the best version of ourselves.
