Roger Federer is considered to be one of the best tennis players in the Open Era. He will soon be turning 41 in August and he hasn’t played a single professional tennis match since the Wimbledon, owing to a knee surgery.
Federer has already undergone two knee surgeries in 2020, however, he returned to play tennis in 2021. Just after playing five tournaments, Roger again had to go through third knee surgery. Earlier, in 2022 he confirmed that he would be participating in the Laver Cup alongside Rafael Nadal in September 2022.

Amidst all of this, the 20-time grand slam champion has confirmed that he would be playing the Basel Open, which he has won a total of 10 times. Until Roger Federer returns to play anytime sooner, Basel would be his first ATP event of the year.
Roger Federer has the record for the most wins in Basel
Roger Federer has enjoyed a lot of wins and success in Basel and holds a record 10 titles to his name. In his 13 last appearances in Basel, Roger Federer has always made it to the finals round.
The last time Federer lost a match in Basel was in 2013 when he suffered a shock defeat against Juan Martin Del Potro.
Ever since that loss, Roger has won the Basel Open title a total of 5 times. Roger Federer emphasized the gravity of his current situation in the annual report he publishes every year. He emphasized that,
“After many month of battling injury, my return to the tour in March, after my first operation, highlighted and energized me to continue my tennis career.”
“I’m grateful for every minute I was able to spend with my fans and tennis family on court. My experience in Doha illustrated to me that my journey as an elite athlete isn’t over yet.”
Roger Federer has been the fan favourite each time he is on the court. Hundreds and thousands of fans have missed his action on the court ever since his long injury break. He also made a post on Instagram which read,
“Looking forward to playing back home”
Basel officially returns to the tennis calendar between October 24 and October 30. Federer will make his comeback and would be the defending champion.
