After a quick end to their postseason aspirations, the Los Angeles Lakers have decided to fire Darvin Ham and are now looking for other candidates to take his position. To those who might not know, the Lakers matched up for the second time in a row against the Denver Nuggets for the first round of the playoffs. The team ended up losing within 5 games to Denver and was unable to make it a competitive series.
Although blame could be shared by several individuals on the Lakers, head coach Darvin Ham is the first to be relieved of his position. Moreover, reports have already begun to emerge revealing the candidates that the Lakers are looking at to replace Ham.
Tyronn Lue could help LeBron James win another title with the Los Angeles Lakers
One of the main candidates that the Lakers are looking to bring on as head coach is Tyronn Lue, according to a report by The Athletic. Some veteran fans might be aware that Lue has coached LeBron James in the past and even helped the Lakers star win the 2016 NBA championship while playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Since Lue already has a relationship with King James and has seen significant success coaching him, a reunion between them on the Lakers would undoubtedly improve the team’s chances of winning an NBA championship shortly.

Reports also reveal that the Lakers are considering other coaches who won championships before such as Mike Budenholzer and Kenny Atkinson. Budenholzer coached the Milwaukee Bucks to a title in 2021 and Atkinson was the assistant coach for the Warriors in 2022.
Should the Lakers promote one of their assistant coaches?
While bringing in an experienced and accomplished head coach should be the right call to make, the Lakers might also consider promoting one of their current assistant coaches. After all Chris Jent, Jordan Ott, and the rest of the assistant coaches are already familiar with the team and will not have any issues or conflicts transitioning to the position of head coach.
