The Uruguayan legend Luis Suarez has decided to end the chapter of Gremio. Suarez joined the team in early 2023 and enjoyed a wonderful solitary season. The ex-Barcelona striker had joined Gremio from his boyhood club, Nacional.
Inter Miami looks to be on a mission to reunite former FC Barcelona players. The signing of Lionel Messi in the summer of 2023 was followed by the signings of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
The American club was optimistic about signing Luis Suarez in the same window but was declined by Gremio. The Brazilian club was reluctant to let go of their star striker midway through the season.
And the Gremio’s gamble worked wonders, as El Pistolero put on a remarkable season for the club. Luis Suarez scored 24 goals and gave out 17 assists in 52 games for the Brazilian club.

The Uruguayan won Gremio’s 42nd Campeonato Gaucho where he converted a penalty in the second half. Suarez even scored in his last-ever game for Gremio.
Inter Miami’s co-owner, David Beckham has been a huge Luis Suarez fan for a long time and has spoken highly of him in the past. Speaking to Sky Sports, ahead of the Uruguayan’s transfer to Barca in 2014, the former English player compared Suarez with Erik Cantona.
Beckham commented, ” Eric was a great player, a legend, and a player I always looked up to. Same with Luis. For me, I look at his football talent and he is a hell of a talent.” Beckham would certainly wish for Suarez to have the same impact at Miami as Cantona did at Manchester United.
Luis Suarez talks about his painful struggle with fitness
Now, that Lucho is a free agent it opens up a door for Inter Miami, to sign him for free. Suarez would be desperate to play with his former teammates. The striking duo of Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi once terrorized defenders across Europe and won some of the most prestigious trophies. That, coupled with the intelligence of Sergio Busquets and the charisma of Jordi Alba can help Inter Miami reach new heights.
But, this would come at a huge cost for Luis Suarez as he has been fighting with fitness issues in the latter stages of his career. Suarez has recently talked about his hectic pre-game medications, in a recent show of Uruguayan radio station Sport 890.
🇺🇾💔 Luis Suárez: “Days before each game I take three pills, and hours before playing I get an injection. If not, I can’t play. Hence the limp.”
“I have to think that in maybe five years I won’t be able to play 5-a-side football with my friends.”

The Uruguayan said, “Days before each game I take three pills, and hours before playing I get an injection. If not, I can’t play. Hence the limp. I have to think that in maybe five years I won’t be able to play five-a-side football with my friends.
The truth is that the first steps in the morning are very painful. Anyone who sees me thinks that it is impossible for me to play a game. My son asks me to play with him and I simply cannot.”
Suarez has admitted to taking pills and injections to be able to play a soccer game. The effects of this medication are so severe that Suarez is not able to play a game of football with his son. Hence, Suarez would have to look after his fitness well if he wanted to realize his dream of reuniting with Messi and Co.
