The verbal warfare between Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington is in full swing ahead of the grudge match at UFC 272. Former friends turned bitter rivals, Covington and Masvidal will finally lock horns inside the cage inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on March 5.
Ahead of the bout, promotions are in full swing. In a recent conversation with TMZ, Covington accused Masvidal of lying, and spoke about his predictions for the fight. Here’s what the former interim welterweight champion had to say about his upcoming opponent Jorge Masvidal.
“I feel like a little kid the night before Christmas. So I’m super excited, man. Just to hold this kid accountable for all the reckless words he said to the media. He’s been lying to everybody the whole time. And I just can’t wait to expose every part of the world next Saturday night, on pay-per-view in T-Mobile Arena.”
Earlier, Covington had called “fake news” on Masvidal’s claim that the rift between the both started with Covington not paying Masvidal’s striking coach Paulino Hernandez. Covington declined any such incident and stated that it wasn’t the reason why he was ousted from the American Top Team.
“Oh, dude, this is way more personal. I mean, this is, this is a blood feud, you know, this goes back to a brotherhood, man. We were eight years together every single day, side-by-side couldn’t leave each other, like best friends. And now, we’re the biggest bitter enemies.”
“Like he’s the one person on Earth, I don’t give a s***. Like anytime. I see him, dude, I want to send that guy straight to hell and luckily I get to do in the UFC Octagon next Saturday night on pay-per-view and it’s going to be bad. I’m going to make him pay. I’m going to make him suffer for just backstabbing me and turning his back, and trying to run this fake narrative to the media.”
Needless to say, tension is high ahead of the hugely anticipated UFC 272, and fans will be on the edge of their seats when the main event between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal goes down in Las Vegas this weekend.
Colby Covington looking at a title shot with a win over Jorge Masvidal
Colby Covington is arguably the only welterweight who has been able to give Kamaru Usman a run for his money. However, he has fallen short on both occasions, narrowly edging out against the pound-for-pound king Kamaru Usman. Speaking about his last fight, Covington once again claimed that he won the rematch and expressed his desire to face the Nigerian Nightmare once again inside the UFC Octagon.

“I’m the best fighter in the world right now. I don’t care what anybody says. I won three rounds out of my last undisputed title fight with Usman. The people saw at Madison Square Garden, just because three stooges sitting cage side, in the judge’s desk, didn’t give me the fight.”
Needless to say, should Covington pick up a promising win against Masvidal, a title shot is guaranteed. However, a case can be made that Covington might have to pick a couple more wins to get his chance at the welterweight gold once again. He is 1-2 in his last three fights, with both the losses coming against the UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.
