During the build-up of the trilogy fight, Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier engaged in intense trash talk on social media and in several interviews. However, the Notorious crossed the line by involving Dustin’s wife amidst their trash talk. Moreover, the Irishman didn’t stop even after the trilogy fight was over as he passed nasty comments about Jolie Poirier in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.
In the latest episode of the MMA Hour, Ariel Helwani questioned Dustin Poirier about his emotions after Conor McGregor made things personal during the build-up of their trilogy fight. The Diamond revealed that McGregor went too far with his statements in the post-fight interview.
“For sure I mean, for sure some of the stuff he said is crossing the line. But this is a fight game and I don’t make the rules. I just go in there and punish people for talking and that’s what happened.” Therefore it is commendable that Dustin Poirier managed to keep his calm despite all the vile statements that McGregor had passed about his wife.
Dustin Poirier has not ruled out a Fourth fight against Conor McGregor in the future
Many people were shocked after seeing Conor McGregor talking trash and calling out Poirier for a fourth fight while being injured after the end of the trilogy fight. Similarly, Dustin Poirier was also surprised about McGregor’s promotional skills in the post-fight interview. As a result, he gave his thoughts about a future fight with the Irishman during his interview with Ariel Helwani.
“I felt like I just won. It is what it is. What a promoter the guy is sitting there holding a Gumby leg and setting up fights and still talking trash. Hey, let the guy recover and get healthy and come back. We’ll see what happens, what’s next. But I feel I won the fight. That’s the feeling I got immediately after.”
Hence it is needless to say that Dustin Poirier is not ruling out a fourth fight against The Notorious. However, his current aim would be to win the UFC lightweight belt in his next fight against the current titleholder Charles Oliviera. Comment below if you think that Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor should fight for the fourth time or is it time to move on from this rivalry.
