Recently Leon Edwards sat down with Submission Radio for an interview. Edwards discussed about a lot of things mainly concerning the welterweight division and his fight against Khamzat Chimaev. Recent times have seen some sort of friction between Chimaev and the #3 170lb contender. Soon after demolishing all his 3 opponents in the UFC, The Borz had started to call out some big names in the division, most notably Edwards’.

It makes sense when a new guy gets eager to fight a high ranked fighter to rise up the ranks. But here, even Rocky seems to be equally rooting for a fight against the Swedish. When asked about what is there for Edwards in the fight against Khamzat, the 29-year old replied:

“He’s one of the biggest names in the division I think. From how much they are putting into him, how much attention they’re giving him and how much Dana’s getting behind him. So I think if I got there and beat the guy that they are picking to win, what I want to anyway, then I think that put[s] me in a perfect position for big title fights. So, that’s the only reason really.”
Leon Edwards Vs. Khamzat Chimaev Had Been Called Off Twice Before Booking It For The 3rd Time In March
Currently Leon is set to face the undefeated prospect of the UFC, Khamzat Chimaev in UFC Fight Night 187. The British fighter is currently on a terrific 8-fight win streak. To those who don’t know, his is currently the biggest win streak in the 170lb division after the champion Kamaru Usman’s. The most unbelievable is the fact that despite such dominant performances, he has yet to get a title shot. Maybe a win on his new opponent might fetch him a shot at the gold.
Talking about Chimaev, he is straight up demolishing everyone who is getting in his way to become the next superstar of the UFC. Since his entry in the UFC, he has finished all his 3 opponents in the most dominant fashion anyone can imagine of. Let’s see if he manages to maintain his win streak by beating his biggest test in the UFC or he gets to taste his first ever defeat.
