Natasha Jonas went head to head against Chris Namus for the vacant women’s WBO super welterweight title at the AO Arena in Manchester. This high stakes title fight took place in the undercard of the grudge main event bout between Amir Khan and Kell Brook.
Originally, Jonas was supposed to face Ewa Piatkowska for the welterweight belt. However, Ewa contracted covid and former champion Chris Namus accepted to fight and this title fight was scheduled. Leading into this bout, Jonas had fought for the title twice previously against Terrie Harper and Katie Taylor respectively.
Although she fell short on both the occasions by a close margin as she drew against Harper and suffered a decision loss against Taylor. However, the British boxer managed to become a world champion this time around and she did it in spectacular fashion by defeating the Uruguayan boxer via KO/TKO in the second round.
In this ten-round bout, Jonas started aggressively and used her movement to constantly nudge Namus with her jabs. During one of the exchanges in the final moments of the first round, Natasha landed a vicious combination to drop Chris Namus on the floor.
The Uruguayan boxer picked herself up before the ten counts and the fight continued. Thereafter Namus was saved by the bell as Natasha dazed her with a powerful right hand. In the second round, Miss GB wasted no time as she pushed aggressively and landed a barrage of punches.
Subsequently, Natasha landed a strong left hook to drop Namus once again. Thereafter the referee decided to stop the match and Jonas won the bout via KO/TKO.
