The Dallas Mavericks are one of the younger franchises in the NBA. They’ve been in the league for 42 seasons but have been relatively successful. They have 24 playoff appearances under their belt, a 57% success rate. They’ve even won 1 NBA title in that time and made the finals twice.

In comparison, the Golden State Warriors are opposites. They’ve been in the league since the beginning. However, at the time they dawned on another name. From 1946-to 1971 they were the Philadelphia/San Francisco Warriors. They haven’t made the playoffs as frequently as the Mavericks but as a franchise, they have won 6 NBA championships.

2007 Playoffs 3rd April, 2007 Dallas at GSW 86-111 GSW Win series 4-2

The Golden State Warriors were a lottery team and the Dallas Mavericks are relatively young. Due to these two things and a few others, they’ve played each other only once in the NBA playoffs.

Fortunately for us, it was the most memorable playoff series in recent history. In the 2007 season, the Dallas Mavericks had won 67 games. It was the most wins they’ve had in franchise history and Dirk was celebrated for it by becoming the first-ever MVP from the Dallas Mavericks.

They played the 8th-seeded Golden State Warriors who broke their 12-year playoff drought to sneak into the playoffs. They were not considered as competition and were supposed to be an easy series for Dallas. The best player on that team was a 27-year-old Baron Davis.

However, the Mavs crumbled. Within 4 games they were down 3-1 against the 8th seed. Every game a player from the Warriors would step up and crumble the MVP.

Nowitzki was shut down and was not even the best player on his team anymore. He not only was the first-ever European MVP but also the first MVP that lost in the first round of the NBA playoffs.

Key matchups from the past

Dirk Nowitzki vs Baron Davis

In the 2007 NBA season, Dirk Nowitzki won the MVP award averaging 24.6 points and 8.9 rebounds whilst shooting 41% from the 3. His Mavericks had the best record in the league and Dirk had established himself as a generational superstar.

However, in the playoffs, he ghosted. He averaged 19.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, 1.8 steals, and 1.3 blocks with the most terrible shooting percentages you’ve ever seen. Dirk was not even the best player on his team.

Baron Davis was playing 40 minutes a game and averaged 25 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals whilst shooting 54% from the field and 45% from the 3. He singlehandedly showed the NBA that the will to win beats the talent every day of the week.

Golden State Warriors vs Dallas Mavericks: Current season matchup

The Dallas Mavericks and the Warriors have played each other 4 times this season. Dallas won the season series 3-1. Not a single one of those games was close enough to keep you at the edge of your seat. Even though the Warriors finished as the higher seed, they did not have an answer for Luka Doncic.

GSW is the best defensive team in the league and is looking to get back to its glory from the days of its dynasty. But Luka just pulled off the greatest upset in this season’s playoffs and is currently everyone’s favorite player in the league.
