NBA fans will be alarmed to find out that Gloria James once behaved in a very questionable manner. As we all know, Gloria is the mother of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James. She raised him as a single mother with a lot of struggles many years ago.
While all of that is certainly commendable, Gloria once did something that brought a lot of negative publicity onto herself and her son LeBron by extension. Let us take a look at what actually happened and how King James responded to the questions that he had to face from the media.
Gloria James hit a man for taking too long to park her car during LeBron James’ time with the Miami Heat
It turns out that Gloria lost her cool and created a scene back in 2011 when LeBron James was playing with the Miami Heat. She was actually arrested by the Miami Beach Police after she struck a car valet for taking too long to deliver her car.
According to the police reports, Gloria was smelling of alcohol and clearly not in her senses. She struck the Valet and insulted him by repeating, “Do you know who I am?” in a condescending tone. As a result of this, the man, whose identity has not been released, felt offended and revealed that he planned to sue Gloria for her actions.
After she hit him, apparently she fell to the floor, which speaks to how intoxicated she was. This was not a good look and her son LeBron was soon questioned by the media. To that, he simple response with, “It’s very sensitive because it’s your mother, of course…People around me are helping me, helping her.”
There is no denying that this would have been quite embarrassing for the King. Despite all the criticism against him, he has maintained a very clean image of himself in the public eye and has never been associated with anything controversial or illegal. Unfortunately, he was linked to this simply because his mother felt a sense of authority and pride due to the status he brought to the family.
In any case, we never found out whether the man actually sued her and kept to his word. Even if he did, it would have happened behind closed doors and the details of the settlement would not have been made public.
