Michael Jordan is considered by many to still be the GOAT of basketball. He is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished players to ever step foot in the league and has a sports resume that few can hope to match. Jordan also played a massive role in bringing the NBA to the global market, making it significantly more well-known.
As a result, MJ has made an incredible amount of money throughout his life. In fact, he is the richest athlete in the world with a net worth of around $2 billion. This is more money than an average NBA player can imagine seeing, let alone possess. Since he is such a rich man, fans must certainly want to know what fancy possessions he owns and how he travels around.
Michael Jordan owns a private jet that he purchased for $61.5 million
It turns out that Jordan doesn’t have the need for a blimp in order to utilize air travel. After all, he owns a private jet that he bought for a whopping 61.5 million back in 2016. It is a 2005 Gulfstream G550 that seats around 19 people. When asked what prompted him to make the purchase, Jordan revealed that it allowed much easier and faster, saving a significant amount of time.
This is no ordinary private jet, if anything like that could even exist. The registration number is quite unique and holds a lot of personal significance to the Chicago Bulls legend. The initials for his private jet are N236MJ. While there isn’t any clear meaning behind the “N” that we can find, the rest of his registration number certainly makes sense.

As we all know, Michael Jordan wore only one number when playing in the NBA, the iconic #23 that several players after him have adorned in an attempt to replicate him. Additionally, he also won 6 NBA titles throughout his career. Finally, as we all know, his initials are MJ. When we put all of that together we have N236MJ.
However, it turns out that wasn’t enough customization and Jordan wanted to do more for his private jet. Therefore, he even had the Jumpman logo painted on the tail of his aircraft. Some of us already know that the logo is an iconic symbol of the Jordan shoe brand. Furthermore, he had it repainted upon purchase with Blue and White colors in order to represent his old college basketball team, the North Carolina Tar Heels.
With such a special and customized private jet that can go up to 554 mph, there is simply no need for MJ to purchase a blimp or any other form of air transport for the near future.
