Drake, the millionaire rapper has a long history in the NBA and love for the sport. He is loved for his antics on the court and some are irritated by his actions. Drake has used many basketball stars in reference in his songs, notably LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kobe Bryant, and others. However, one of his songs, “Stay Schemin”, contained a line that disrespected Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s wife. and she didn’t take the matter lightly.
The following lyrics in the song, “Kobe ’bout to lose a hundred fifty M’s/Kobe my n—a I hate it had to be him/B**ch you wasn’t with me shooting in the gym” did not go too well with Vanessa Bryant. This came when Kobe and Vanessa were having troubles in their relationship and Vanessa filed a divorce from the Los Angeles Lakers legend. Vanessa had caught Kobe with multiple women, the latest affair at the time was the reason Vanessa filed for a divorce.
After Vanessa and Kobe resolved their conflict, Vanessa called out the American rapper, “I love when immature kids quote a rapper that has never been friends with Kobe and knows nothing about our relationship… Just shows how gullible they are. I don’t need to be in the gym. I’m raising our daughters, signing checks, and taking care of everything else that pertains to our home life.” Said, Vanessa.
After resolving the issue and deciding to stay together for the family, Vanessa withdrew her divorce petition. It’s safe to say, Kobe learned a valuable lesson about the sanctity of marriage.
What did Drake say in his apology to Vanessa Bryant?
Drake, at the time, made things right with Vanessa and the Mamba. He also sent a public apology to Vanessa for disrespecting her.
“That line came from a conversation about being this young and making this much money and the fear of losing it all. I just used his potential situation to address my own life. I never intended to offend Vanessa or anyone else. That line had everything to do with me and what goes on in my head as a 25-year-old man with this much income flowing in. Kobe is and always will be a friend and an icon to me”, said Drake.
Vanessa also received an apology from the rapper’s manager, “received a text of apology forwarded from (Drake’s) manager. It’s done and over with and it’s time for people to honestly THINK before speaking.”, said Bryant.
Presently Vanessa has agreed with Nike to continue her late husband’s sneaker line, Kobe 8.
Drake took direct shots at Vanessa at the time when the couple were not on good terms. It’s quite a common act to diss people in the rapping industry. Drake took inspiration from the fortune Vanessa would get from the divorce. Things, however, didn’t go to plan for the rapper who was left apologizing to Vanessa.
