The Dallas Mavericks star point guard, Luka Doncic is one of the brightest players in the NBA. However, his legal battle with his mother, Mirjam Poterbin took everyone by surprise. With his meteoric rise in the NBA, it is only natural that Doncic decided what to do with his name. However, Mirjam owned his trademark “Luka Doncic 7.” Nonetheless, his mother refused to give him back his trademark, which led to a legal battle.
However, Luka will have to find an alternative to make use of his name and start his venture. The Slovenian ended the legal dispute with his mother last year in December 2022. The case was filed in September of last year and lasted two months. This case severed the mother-son relationship after this. However, since Luka terminated the case against her mother, it is curious to know about their relationship after the dispute.
Mirjam looked after Luka since he was a 7-year-old when she divorced her husband, Sasha Doncic. There is no denying the fact that Mirjam has been crucial to Luka’s success. She was beside Luka since the day, even when he played his first professional game for Real Madrid in Spain. Mirjam has been handling all his business transactions, they had a strong bond, which looks to have been severed.

Nonetheless, although Mirjam and Luka may not be seen publicly and on social media, Mirjam still has her son’s name on her Instagram bio. On September 22, 2022, she posted a photo of herself along with her mother Milena Poterbin. Both of them could be seen wearing the No.77 jersey of the national side, Slovenia while attending a game. It was the last photo she uploaded related to her son before the legal battle began.
Are Luka Doncic and his mother Mirjam Poterbin on talking terms?
It’s been almost 4 months since Luka withdrew his petition for acquiring the trademark from his mother. However, since then the two have not been seen publicly together or engaged on social media. The two still follow each other on Instagram but have not posted anything related to each other. Mirjam has uploaded photos of Luka from the 2021 and 2022 NBA All-Star weekend, however, she hasn’t posted anything from this year’s All-Star.
It is still uncertain if the two are in contact with each other in private. As far as anybody can tell, they don’t seem to be on talking terms with each other. Neither of them has commented about their dispute with each other, and not even after the dispute was terminated. Luka withdrawing the case after failing to persuade his mother to give him his trademark might just have shattered all ties between the mother and the son.
