LeBron James has made a lot of money while still playing in the NBA. One of those avenues for generating some extra income was the Space Jam 2 movie. To fans who do not know, the King tried his hand at acting and played the lead role in this basketball-themed movie.
Some might be aware that Michael Jordan acted in Space Jam 1. Therefore, the Lakers star was subjected to a significant amount of criticism for acting in and the overall quality of the movie. Nonetheless, he still managed to earn a substantial amount of money for trying his hand at an actor. Let us take a closer look and how much money the movie generated and how much King James was paid for his services.
Space Jam 2 Box Office Collection
Space Jam 2, which is titled Space Jam: a new legacy, revolves around LeBron James meeting the Looney Tunes cartoon characters such as Bugs Bunny. It was essentially about a basketball match between the Tunes and the Goon Squad, a team created by artificial intelligence that traps LeBron in a gaming algorithm and forces him to play the game.
It was released in July 2021 and generated a total of $163.7 million. In the United States, it brought in $70.6 million. Moreover, it got $93.1 million combined across the rest of the world. Although these numbers might seem impressive, they pale in comparison to some of the more successful movies released in recent times.
Space Jam reportedly made a loss throughout this entire process. Perhaps the fact that it was released during the pandemic prevented the sale of tickets to a significant extent. However, many critics have also blamed LeBron’s poor acting and the movie’s inferior scriptwriting as other reasons for his failure.
The film was made on a budget of around $150 million. It generated 163 million, which is not much of a profit in the grand scheme of things. After all, that only indicates a $13 million profit across the entire world. To make matters somewhat amusing, LeBron was paid $13 million for acting in the movie.

Perhaps they should have negotiated with him harder and agreed upon a lower price. The movie never really had much success and James was heavily criticized for his acting performance. Nonetheless, he made a tidy sum of money for trying his hand at acting in a popular basketball-themed movie franchise.
