The NBA has witnessed many families enter the league at the same time. Stephen Curry and his brother Seth are one of the most popular examples. Brook and Robin Lopez are also siblings who play for different teams right now. However, at the same time, some players share the same last name, leaving the NBA world confused. This is the case with Andrew and Aaron Wiggins.
The two players share the same last name, leaving the fans to wonder if they are related. Andrew plays for the Golden State Warriors right now, and Aaron is a player for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Andrew Wiggins and Aaron Wiggins are not related despite sharing the same last name
The truth behind their relationship is that they aren’t any. Both Andrew and Aaron hail from different backgrounds and are not related despite having the same last name. Andrew entered the league when the Cleveland Cavaliers drafted him as the #1 pick at the 2014 NBA Draft.
He went to Vaughan Secondary School in Canada before joining the NBA and even helped them win the Ontario provincial championship in 2010. Andrew also transferred to Huntington Prep School the following year. Since making his NBA debut, Andrew has been vital to numerous teams.
He was crucial for the Minnesota Timberwolves (involved in a three-team trade after the NBA Draft) after winning the Rookie of The Year award in 2015.
Aaron Wiggins, on the other hand, is from the USA. He was born in North Carolina and went to Grimsley High School. Just like Andrew, he transferred to Wesleyan Christian Academy and played basketball for the high school as well. The Oklahoma City Thunder drafted Aaron through the 2021 NBA Draft as the #55th pick.
Aaron was a G-League player for the Oklahoma City Blue for quite some time. His initial contract with the Thunder board led him to represent both G-League and NBA teams. However, the Thunder decided to land him on an NBA contract last year and he has been a rotational player for them since then. Aaron even led the Thunder to a win recently against the Jazz, scoring 27 points and making 4 rebounds in just 27 minutes.
The two players are quite different when it comes to their play styles as well. Aaron is a player who often holds off opponents to make space for his teammates. But he does exploit the defensive loopholes he creates in the opposition’s defenses. As for Andrew, he’s more of a defensive player, averaging 1 SPG and 0.7 BPG throughout his NBA career.
