LeBron James is an NBA superstar and one of the greatest players ever. Like all greats, he has several titles or nicknames that he has been given by people over the years. Some have stuck, some have not. One must wonder what nicknames he has been designated by his fans and the world.
A nickname is something that is either personal or has significance behind it. LeBron is from Cleveland and entered the NBA with the weight of his hometown franchise, the Cleveland Cavaliers on his shoulders. He has delivered a title to every team he has been on.
“King James” and “The Chosen One” are the two most popular LeBron James nicknames
Many NBA fans know that LeBron was called “The Chosen One” when he entered the league. Moreover, he believed it himself and even has it tattooed across his back. He has always believed he was destined for greatness and NBA analysts began comparing him to Michael Jordan even before he stepped into the league.
He got the tattoo all the way back on February 18th, 2002. This was when he was featured on the cover of sports illustrated. Initially, we thought, the media were the ones who anointed him with this name. Be that as it may, he clearly agrees with it and even took it the extra mile with the tattoo.
Another popular name for LeBron is “King James“. He has no royal blood as far as we know but has held this title for several years now. It was never exactly clear when he was given and accepted the nickname “King James“. However, an old friend named Randy Mims shed more light on when it occurred back in high school.
“It became clear to me how big LeBron was freshman year. He and Maverick won the state championship together. And these kids like kept running around the hotel talking about King James. I finally stopped one of those kids like who is this King James you guys keep talking about?”
The children revealed that it was none other than LeBron James and Randy decided to ask his friend about it himself, “Hey man the craziest thing is going on downstairs, these people are going around calling you King James.” LeBron laughed and replied, “yeah, that’s what they’ve been calling me.”
Over the years King James has collected several other nicknames and titles. Some of them are the “Akron Hammer” and “L- Train“.
