Luka Doncic isn’t particularly known for his speed or explosiveness. Nonetheless, he has still proven to be an incredible talent and asset to the Dallas Mavericks so far in his short NBA career. We are all aware that Doncic is coming off a trip to the Western Conference Finals.
That is the furthest he has managed to carry his team into the NBA postseason. Transition speed and pace play a huge role in dictating the outcome of a match and the better team. Every player on the team should be somewhat fast and aware of the pace basketball requires. With that being said, let us take a look at Luka’s speed and how fast he actually is when compared to other NBA players.
Luka Doncic is one of the slowest players on the Dallas Mavericks
Well, it turns out that Doncic is the second-slowest player on his team. This should be quite troubling considering that he plays the position of a point guard. Usually, they are some of the fastest people on the court. Ja Morant, Stephen Curry, and Russell Westbrook definitely use their superior speed to their advantage.
On offense, he is considerably faster at 4.08mph. Be that as it may, he slows down on the defensive with an average speed of 3.27 mph. As a result, he can be considered one of the slowest players on his team, behind Tyler Dorsey, a player on his team hailing from Greece.
Tyler is averaging 3.97 mph on offenses and 2.72 mph on defense. While these numbers look even lower than Luka’s, it is important to remember that Tyler has only played in 3 games this season for the Mavs. Therefore, these statistics do not show a very clear picture of his speed.
In fact, LeBron James in Year 20 is faster than Luka. According to the stats, he averages 4.1 mph on offense and 3.4 mph on defense. Kevin Durant averaged 3.97 mph and 3.37 mph in offense and defense respectively, Both these veterans are significantly faster than Doncic.
It would interest Mavs fans to know that both JaVale McGee and Christian Wood are significantly faster than Doncic. This is quite surprising considering that they are both centers. Be that as it may, the numbers certainly prove it. McGee averages 4.3 mph on offense and 3.94 on defense. While Wood is at 3.99 mph on offense and 3.74mph on defense.
