Alex Murdaugh Judge Clifton Newman Compares Vanessa Bryant’s $28.85 Million Lawsuit & Kobe Bryant’s Death With Maggie and Paul Murdaugh’s Leaked Autopsy Reports

Kobe Bryant and Gigi Bryant’s death was a difficult one for the entire world. The helicopter that they traveled in came crashing down in LA. The pilot, Ara Zobayan, flew the helicopter too high which caused the tragedy. After their death, photos of their remains were circulated by one of the deputies in the LA County Department.

This caused a stir as Kobe’s wife, Vanessa, filed a lawsuit against the County. Recently, Vanessa received more than $28 million as compensation for the distress the crash photos caused her. Although this was a heartbreaking event, an American judge has compared this to a recent case as well.

Clifton Newman identifies a striking resemblance between Kobe Bryant’s and Alex Murdaugh’s case 

For those who don’t know, Alex Murdaugh has been sentenced to two life terms. He reportedly murdered both his son and wife, Paul and Maggie Murdaugh in 2021. Before Judge Clifton Newman handed out the sentence, a prosecutor accidentally displayed the autopsy report of Maggie on one of the screens. This was enough for people to screen-grab the image and circulate it on social media.

After ruling against Alex, Newman compared the leak to Kobe and Gigi’s situation. He said, “One of the reasons we sought to seal graphic photos because the parties have a right to privacy, a right to those matters not being publicly disclosed.”

“If anyone has heard about the recent settlement that … Kobe Bryant’s wife just made with Los Angeles County and others out there over certain disclosures of information involving the death of Kobe Bryant — liability can be substantial and it’s a risk for the most part that’s not worth taking,” he added.

It speaks at length about how the news of Vanessa’s case has spread across the country like wildfire. As Newman said, the concerned parties have a right to privacy, and it is not acceptable that private information has been leaked. Newman could have used the $28.9 million settlement case as an example to indicate that the same might happen in Maggie Murdaugh’s leaked autopsy report as well.

Speaking of autopsies, Kobe and Gigi’s autopsy reports were disclosed on the internet some time ago. It showed how both of them suffered severe burns to their body before tragically passing away. It is not known whether the autopsy reports were leaked, but Vanessa has only addressed the crash photos until now.
