Amidst everything that has been going on in the league lately, Paul George is currently working on an extension in LA. For the first nine seasons of his career, the veteran was consistent and reliable. Except for when he got injured before the 2014-15 season. For the most part, George has always been a great player to work with. But for the last four years, he’s been battling with injuries.
Based on his final season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, we know that PG is an MVP-caliber player. Back then, he averaged 28 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. However, ever since joining the Los Angeles Clippers, things have been going downhill for the 13-year veteran. Letting go of George will be a tough decision to make considering how the Clippers have not seen him in full form.
On the other hand, LA has been trying to work out a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers to acquire James Harden. The Clippers might be the only team that’s interested in the 10x All-Star. They also happen to be the only team with adequate assets to work with.
However, it doesn’t seem like LA is ready to give away either of their veteran superstars. Besides Paul George, they could trade Russell Westbrook. But Mr. Triple-Double has barely played for the Clippers. LA is probably waiting to see its big 3 on the floor before making a decision.
Paul George and the Clipper are yet to reach common ground regarding his extension
Paul George is due to sign a contract extension with the Clippers soon. As of now, he still has two years left on his four-year $147 million deal that he signed with the Clippers in 2021. During the upcoming season, PG will be paid $45.6 million. And if he signs a player option, the Clippers owe him $48.7 million. But George can also opt out of his final year to test free agency. He could do that to force a bigger contract with the Clippers or get signed by another team.
During the Clippers’ media day, he revealed that an extension is being discussed. He told reporters, “It’s active, but both sides have to be on the same page and that’s just what we’re trying to figure out.” Again, the Clippers seem a little hesitant to offer him an extension at the moment. Both parties haven’t reached common ground yet. It is understandable why the Clippers haven’t jumped into the extension yet.

Paul George has not played more than 60 games since arriving in LA. And the Clippers do not know exactly how good the team can be without George and Kawhi Leonard being frequently in and out of rehab. But the only advantage George has is that he led the team to the 2021 Western Conference Finals without Leonard. Otherwise, they haven’t had much success in the post-season.
