SUMMARY
- Ausar Thompson has been diagnosed with blood clots.
- The rookie will miss the remainder of the season to undergo treatment, as per Shams Charania.
Ausar Thompson was one of the most promising athletes out of the 2023 NBA Draft. The Detroit Pistons accommodated him, but unfortunately, they haven’t been having the greatest season this year. But Thompson showed great potential to become one of the team’s biggest defensive pieces. It has been a rough ride for the Pistons, but they aim to achieve as much as they can with the existing talent on their roster.
Amidst season struggles, the Pistons received shocking news about Thompson’s health some time ago. NBA reporter Shams Charania revealed that the rookie forward has been diagnosed with blood clots. These clots are quite common among athletes, especially in the NBA. Usually, they clear up by themselves but only certain cases go as far as feeling discomfort and inability to perform. Thompson will miss the rest of the season in recovery.
Ausar Thompson will begin non-contact activity during the summer
Ausar Thompson last played against the Dallas Mavericks on March 9. He appeared on the court for only 11 minutes before he started experiencing discomfort. Before the game, the Pistons claimed that he was experiencing an illness and that it was asthma. However, over further analysis, the doctors were able to find the blood clot. Thompson will be spending the rest of the season getting treatment.

“I’m just glad the doctors caught it. From all of the information that I’ve gotten, they’re handling it,” said head coach Monty Williams. He added, “It’s a medical situation, but I’m glad they caught it.” Thompson has been cleared for non-contact basketball activities, acceding to The Athletic. He will resume conditioning during the off-season once he recovers completely.
Blood clots could lead to a fatal end for Ausar Thompson’s career
Ausar Thompson has appeared for 63 games this season averaging 8.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists while shooting 48.3% from the field. He has been Detroit’s top two-way defender of the ball. Unfortunately, the Pistons recorded one of the worst losing streaks earlier this season. They currently rank 14th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 12 wins and 57 losses. Luckily, they were able to secure a couple of wins to push the Washington Wizards to the bottom seed.
Wow. Ausar Thompson and Isaiah Stewart will both miss the rest of the season.

Blood clots (if not treated) could result in fatal outcomes. We saw Chris Bosh retire during the peak of his career due to a blood clotting problem. He had won two championships with Dwyane Wade and LeBron James two seasons before he retired. Thompson has to be vigilant and get checked regularly to avoid any complications in the future. Hopefully, we get to see Ausar in all his glory next season.
