Due to her diverse background, she had to face some struggles after her family moved to the U.S. She needed to represent herself by any one of her backgrounds. In one of her past interviews with ‘The View‘ talk show, she talked about it in detail.
“Growing up in Toronto, I was black. I’m a black woman. I moved to the south, to North Carolina, right at the start of high school, so at 14, and there it was like … who do you choose? I always loved every part of me. But there it was like ‘No, you’re gonna go here.’ Then it seemed like my community didn’t want to, like, wrap their arms around me and embrace me. That kind of hurt.” – she mentioned. Ayesha also made her kids know about their heritage.
Not being embraced by the black community at first, Ayesha inspiringly launched a magazine named, “Sweet July” in 2020. The magazine was introduced to empower black women representing their inspiring journey with stories of their family and their faith.
