Brittney Griner took her wife, Cherelle Griner, on a date as the couple sparkled on the red carpet of the Met Gala 2023 on May 1, becoming the first WNBA player to do so. Brittney wore a sand-colored silk jacket, trousers, and top, while Cherelle wore a strapless white gown with black pointed shoes. Calvin Klein is responsible for the couple’s attire.
The Phoenix Mercury‘s famed 6-foot-9 star ascended the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City with her wife. Her attendance at the occasion comes nearly five months after she was released from a Russian jail cell on December 8, 2022.
On the red carpet, the Phoenix Mercury player commented that the designs are “dripping off of us right now.” She also discussed the exhibit “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” which honors the late, brilliant designer. “You can’t think of fashion without thinking of him,” she remarked. She was spotted exchanging pleasantries with Dwayne Wade, the former Miami Heat star who was seen dressed in a rock leather outfit.
Brittney Griner was welcomed by US President Joe Biden at the WHCA Dinner recently
Griner’s unlawful detention in Russia for reportedly smuggling hash-laced vape cartridges made international headlines before the Biden administration mediated her release, following which the President invited Griner and her wife to the 2023 White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. She was on the guest list for CBS and Gayle King for the evening where Griner and her wife rocked in an all-black Calvin Klein attire.

To mark the occasion, King posted an emotional video on Instagram. “It was amazing,” the two-time Olympic gold medalist, Griner, said of her encounter with President Biden. “It was an emotional experience. That is for certain. That’s what I’ll say. It was an emotional experience for both of us. It was made just for me.” When asked what stuck out about their encounter, she stated, “He kept saying how big of a fan he was of mine and how much he loved the way I played basketball,” which she felt was “pretty cool.”
President Joe Biden also honored Brittney in his address, telling the globe how much he respected her and citing “I love this woman!” He also informed the world how hard the government battled for her release, for which both her wife and she were grateful. Fans congratulated Griner on social media and were in full support of what President Biden had to say.
Griner is currently concentrating on her game, and she attended her first training session with the Phoenix Mercury before going to the Met Gala on May 1. Brittney Griner attended the Met Gala only days after saying she supports biological guys competing in women’s sports and that it is a crime to divide someone for any reason. When questioned by a media representative about how she felt about being in the limelight, she said, “It feels good.”
Congrats Brittney Griner for being recognized by Biden at WHCA dinner! #BrittneyGriner

The eight-time WNBA All-Star re-signed with Phoenix in February and will make $165,000 this season. Griner will make her formal comeback to the court on May 19 when the Mercury takes on the Los Angeles Sparks. She hasn’t played for the Mercury since the WNBA Finals in 2021 when she led Phoenix to a loss to the Chicago Sky.
