SUMMARY
- Dejounte Murray is being targeted by the Brooklyn Nets amongst other teams.
- The Hawks have demanded for two-first round picks for the guard.
Earlier last week, several sources confirmed that Dejounte Murray is undoubtedly going get traded ahead of the deadline. The Atlanta Hawks have made it obvious that they want to rebuild the roster as their frontcourt hasn’t yielded the expected results. Now, the only thing left for the Hawks to do is discuss or explore various trade scenarios with teams that have shown a lot of interest in acquiring the guard.
Recently, NBA insider Brian Windhorst claimed the Brooklyn Nets have become a destination of interest with the Murray trade scenario. He said, “I know that the Lakers and Hawks have talked, and I know it was like, ‘OK, check back after January 15.’ What [Adrian Wojnarowski] is saying is it’s not just the Lakers. And I know the Knicks have been tied in. I would keep an eye on the Nets.”
Brian Windhorst says to “keep an eye on” the Nets in Dejounte Murray trade talks, per The Hoop Collective.

The Nets have not had a smooth run lately despite a fiery start to the season. They had Cam Thomas who led the offense averaging around 30 points per game. Eventually, Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson started taking over. But injuries have crippled the Nets’ run lately. They currently rank 10th in the Eastern Conference with a 16-23 record.
Right now, they do not have a stable leader on the roster, which is someone Dejounte Murray can be. He had plenty of experience being a number one option while he was on the San Antonio Spurs. In his last season with the Spurs, Murray averaged 21.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per game and was voted an All-Star.
Can the Nets match what the Hawks have asked for Dejounte Murray?
Recently, it was revealed that the Hawks are demanding two first-round picks in exchange for Dejounte Murray. The Nets have some competition to deal with if they plan on acquiring the guard. The Los Angeles Lakers have been frontrunners for a while. They have been trying to acquire a stable player at the guard position.
Next, the New York Knicks have also been trying to make changes. They have been one of the top teams in the league waiting to acquire Murray. However, the chances of them bringing in another superstar to pair alongside Jalen Brunson are very low. The Knicks recently pushed for a trade to acquire OG Anunoby. And a Murray-Brunson may not work well.
The Nets do have a couple of future first-round picks they were able to acquire from Phoenix during the Kevin Durant trade. In case the Hawks seek another asset, they have players like Royce O’Neale and Spencer Dinwiddie as well. The Spurs are also in a similar spot as the Nets. So, the competition is pretty high in this scenario.
