Drake has been on an absolute roll lately based on what’s been happening in his life. The rapper is widely considered one of the greatest artists of this generation. Legally known as Aubrey Graham, he has been taking on new heights with his concert tours around the United States and the world. He recently released his eighth studio album called “For All The Dogs” which is now available across multiple streaming platforms.
The Canadian rapper also has a history with the NBA. He is one of the Toronto Raptors’ celebrity representatives and is often spotted at their games as well. Either way, he has good connections across the league with various superstars such as Devin Booker and LeBron James. Drake tends to make references to his favorite players in his songs. He also invites them to walk out with him before he steps onto the stage in his concerts. His recent walkout with LeBron and Bronny James took the world by storm.

However, one of his most recent mentions was Dillon Brooks. The Houston Rockets small forward was mentioned in a line from “Another Late Night”, one of Drake’s popular songs off the new album. The lyrics were a direct jab at the NBA player as he said, “Shawty ran some Dillon Brooks / can’t believe this n**** talkin’, damn.” However, Drake never does these things out of context. So let’s find out why.
Dillon Brooks brutally snubbed Drake for Ryan Reynolds
Dillon Brooks was having the time of his life during the most recent FIBA World Cup Tournament. He played alongside a few NBA stars such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, RJ Barrett, and Lu Dort for Canada. The Canadians had an incredible run throughout the tournament and it almost seemed like they were headed to win championship gold. Unfortunately, things did not go their way as they were dominated by Serbia during the semi-finals.
They somehow made it past Team USA for third place. During the tournament, Brooks seemed like he was in a good mental space. He had a tough run during the 2022-23 Season NBA Playoffs, especially since the Memphis Grizzlies made a first-round exit against the Los Angeles Lakers. Brooks also got into a feud with LeBron which led the Grizzlies to dismiss him from the team.
Dillon Brooks picking Ryan Reynolds as his favorite Canadian in this harmless video got Drake in his feelings. Drake is so damn funny. https://t.co/tHRUyKDrHa pic.twitter.com/VB2Q5Q1H5c

During one of Canada’s games, the roster was asked to choose between Drake and Hollywood A-Lister Ryan Reynolds. Both celebrities are also Canadians which made the scenario very interesting. The whole roster chose Drake over Reynolds but at the very end, Brooks chose the actor. Drake ended up posting a screenshot of the video on his Instagram story and this eventually led to the song’s lyrics.
