The Golden State Warriors saw themselves choke a guaranteed win in game 1 of the NBA finals. They could not only defend their 4th quarter lead but also lost a game at home. The final score was 120-108 in Boston’s favor and stole game 1. Draymond Green was virtually non-existent on the court and took the blame for the loss.
The Warriors were the favorites to win this series. But so far Boston has looked like the aggressors on the night. Boston scored more than double the points that Golden State Warriors did in the 4th. They went on a 20-2 run that made that possible. A great culmination of Boston’s killer defense and instant offense. Golden State’s number 1 defense in the league just could not compete.
Draymond Green takes all the blame
Stephen Curry scored 34 points in a losing effort. Curry won the conference finals MVP but never an NBA finals MVP. His performance has been great but will not amount to anything if they lose. He went a bit cold in the 4th shooting 2 of 6 but because he did not have any support, he had to keep shooting.
Draymond Green and Kevon Looney were the 2 starters on the court that could not score more than 10 points combined. In a game where they needed offensive and defensive support from the entire team, these 2 players just ghosted.
“When I look back at the game, I failed him because I did not play well. And when he comes out, guns blazing like that, playing the way he’s playing, I have to make sure that I do my part to make sure that ends in wins.”

Draymond Green was reflective of the loss later in his podcast. He also commended the great play of Al Horford, Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown who scored 68 points combined. Most of the points from these players came in that 4th quarter outburst. The former DPOY will need to bring his A-game this series as there is no one to pick up the slack on his off nights.
