The NBA world has witnessed numerous executives who have played a pivotal role in a franchise’s success. It is a notable point that executives and other staff behind the scenes are significant to the titles that the players win on the court. This has certainly been the case with Golden State Warriors General Manager Bob Myers.
The American joined the Dubs as an assistant GM in 2011 and played second-fiddle to Larry Riley. He was only second in line for 12 months, as the GSW board promoted Myers to the GM position in just a year. This wasn’t a sight that we witnessed often, but it also speaks at length about Bob’s impact on the franchise. Now, Myers has announced that he wishes to step down from the position, after 12 years, as per Adrian Wojnarowski.
BREAKING: Golden State’s Bob Myers – a two-time executive of the year and architect of four NBA championships — is stepping down as the franchise’s president and general manager, he told ESPN on Tuesday. “It’s just time,” Myers said. pic.twitter.com/r9nkqFOETw

Myers has not received much credit for the work he has done, but it should be noted that the players he brought in during his tenure helped to build the Warriors dynasty. This is certainly one of the reasons why Warriors fans are upset about him stepping down from the GM position.
Golden State Warriors react to Bob Myers’ departure from the front office
Myers’ departure has received mixed reactions among the GSW fanbase. Surprisingly, many have been unhappy with the work he has done. But it would be safe to claim that it is not the majority. During his tenure, the Warriors have won 4 NBA championships, out of their total 7. If that wasn’t enough, he also won Executive of The Year twice (2015 & 2017).

Apart from the accolades, the bond he shared with the Warriors players also indicates how underrated he was as a GM. Fans have been left emotional about Myers’ departure. A Twitter user even wrote, “End of a great era for basketball.”

It is indeed the end of a great era for the Warriors, but also for the sport. Myers led the charge against the rest of the NBA and was a huge figure in the GSW dynasty. Some even claim that their downfall is just around the corner since he is leaving. Regardless, it will be interesting to see where he heads next in his career, and who the Warriors replace him with.
