In a surprising move, the Milwaukee Bucks have made an addition to their roster by bringing in Damian Lillard, a seven-time All-Star. This acquisition signals their determination to compete for the championship in 2024. Giannis Antetokounmpo, the star player of the Bucks expressed his enthusiasm for teaming up with Lillard. According to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report Giannis texted Lillard saying, “Let’s get this f–king championship.”
Despite having players like Jrue Holiday, Brook Lopez, Khris Middleton, and Bobby Portis in previous seasons Antetokounmpo recognized Lillard’s exceptional skills that set him apart. With this addition to the team, their offensive strength will undoubtedly increase significantly, providing Giannis with freedom and opportunities to dominate near the basket.
“I’m excited to have Dame,” Antetokounmpo said. “He gives us a chance to win a championship. I’m excited to play with the caliber of player that he is. He can score the ball in his sleep and shoot the lights out.”
However, while acquiring Lillard is great news for the Bucks and their fans it comes at the cost of Jrue Holiday leaving. Holiday was well known for his defensive abilities and played a crucial role in the team’s championship victory. His departure is certainly a loss for everyone involved. Antetokounmpo paid tribute to his teammate.
“Let’s get this f*cking championship.”

“He’s the one who made that huge steal in Game 5 of the Finals,” Giannis added. “I went to battle with him multiple times…This guy is my brother for life, and it’s always going to be like that. He’s going to thrive wherever he ends up.” Jrue’s NBA future remains a huge question mark, as it is not known whether the Blazers are looking to keep or trade him.
How will Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard complement each other?
Antetokounmpo’s dominant presence in the paint along with Lillard’s three-point shooting skills (averaging 38.0% from beyond the arc in the four seasons) creates a perfect balance on offense.
Their assist averages for over the five seasons—5.8 for Giannis and 7.4 for Lillard—demonstrate their willingness and ability to distribute the ball which greatly enhances team dynamics. Despite Lillard’s known defensive limitations, Antetokounmpo, a former Defensive Player of the Year appears ready to address these challenges and maintain a strong team defense.

Together they averaged 63.3 points per game season showcasing their ability to evenly distribute the offensive responsibilities. This balanced offensive approach allows for increased focus on defense strengthening both ends of the court.
With these superstar players combined the Milwaukee Bucks have a promising journey as they aim for the 2024 NBA Championship.
