The Philadelphia 76ers took on the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight. This game which marked James Harden’s Philadelphia debut had a lot of eyes on it. Minnesota and Philadelphia have some beef between their stars. Patrick Beverley, the pest, KAT‘s teammate, took some shots at Embiid during the game.
The Philadelphia 76ers beat the Timberwolves 133-102. A dominating way to begin the new era in Philly. James Harden scored 27 points, 12 assists, and 8 rebounds in his debut.
Joel Embiid was the headliner of the game with 34 points and 10 rebounds. However, losing is not a fun feeling and emotions do get riled up leading to statements like the one Beverley made.
Patrick Beverley gets brutally honest with officials
Patrick Beverley is known more for his antics than his play on the court. He tries to rile up and get in the heads of his opponents as many times as he can. However, tonight, James Harden and Joel Embiid combined for 22 free throw attempts. In comparison, the entire starting 5 for the Timberwolves attempted 22 free throws.
Hence, the clear calls being not called for Joel were visible and probably caused the morale of the Timberwolves to drop. Beverley could not take this type of game being played.
So, Beverley went up to officials, and instead of just flat out asking the official why was there a discrepancy? He made this statement, “Call the foul on Embiid, it’s okay. He’s not a champion and he got no MVPs.”

What Patrick Beverly said was true but could change at the end of the season. Embiid is averaging nearly 30 points, 11 rebounds and is leading the 3rd best team in the East. He’s first in the MVP voting at the moment and with Harden, trade could even contend to win the NBA title.
As of right now, however, the only thing Embiid has is the win from tonight’s game over Beverley and the Timberwolves and that will be very unsettling for Beverley.
